Lemon Battery Science Project

how to make a lemon battery

In schools, there are a lot of subjects that try to put in children’s minds that nurtural energy everything throughout and what surrounds us.  We can take energy to power a light bulb from even food like potatoes and lemons.

And there is nothing bizarre or weird stuff, at some school lessons like physics, it is a common phenomenon. Moreover, sooner or later you can face a problem when one teacher will say that your kid has to make a lemon battery science project and bring its finished version to the school. That’s why it is essential to know how to perform it or be ready to do so. Our new article is dedicated to how to make a lemon battery. Get ready to have a brainstorm!

How to Make a Lemon Battery Step By Step

Step 1: Find All the Materials You Gonna Need

Make some little shopping run to local stores or try to find the following stuff in your house or flat: lemon, copper plates, knife, zinc plates, multimeter, LED light bulbs, alligator clips with wires. You should have all of them to not catch yourself running the mall or shop for additional buying of tools for making a battery out of a lemon.

Step 2: Roll the Lemons

Simply do the same what you do when you have the desire to eat lemon or juice it. You need to choose a juicy lemon for the experiment. Manage access for lemon juices inside. To do so you need to perform a tiny cut through the peel on each end. You must set these far enough that the wires don’t touch.

Step 3: Making Things Working

Embed a copper plate on one part and a zinc plate on the other part.

Step 4: Checking And Testing

Now handling your multimeter to examine your energy levels. Is everything okay? Cool! You have made a battery from a lemon! But don’t relax so soon, you need to add some more lemon to your Lemonkenstein battery!

Step 5: Repeat, Repeat, Repeat

Go in the same footsteps by coping your actions with the first lemon. You need to apply an alligator clip to join the zinc plate on lemon #1 to the copper plate on lemon #2. Now you can double the energy!

Again, perform testing of two lemon-cells. After the check-up, you should repeat the steps that you made already for joining lemons #3 and #4. Super! Your lemon battery experiment for kids is finished! Your light bulb should work even better rather than making a battery out of potatoes (the energy is like an AA2 battery).

Should You Perform Making a Battery Out of a Lemon?

Once the bulb turns on and your kids understand that it is being powered by the lemon battery they created with their tiny hands, you will why all this work be done only by looking at their faces. Make your kids fancy of the science!

Which Is A More Profitable Food Battery? Lemon vs Potato

So we have lemon and potato batteries, which one is better? These two types can light up our LED light bulbs successfully. Still, the potato battery experiment demands you a lot more time. That’s why you can prefer a lemon because it’s much quicker and easier.

Nevertheless, both have meaningful learning opportunities and would obtain great science fair schemes. Why not do both of them and see what you think works properly? Potato and lemon battery experiment results are worthy to be checked.
